Surrounded by the scent of apple blossoms and basking under a gentle April sun, East Lansing celebrated peace, love and nature with its Earth Day celebration.

Coordinated by the Community Relations Coalition (CRC), the festivities of "The Big Green Gig" included live musical acts, arts and crafts projects, plant give-aways, a biodome and a drum circle. But more than that, they gave the many groups of people who call East Lansing home an afternoon to enjoy each other and the City.

"The best part for me is the open access," said organizer Kevin Pajaro, a graduate student in student affairs at MSU and intern with CRC. "It's free and designed to promote unity between the students and residents."

Intern Taylor Mackey agreed, adding that her favorite part was watching people of all ages interact with several yard games and crafts.

"I love the music, all the people and the gorgeous day," said Mackey, an English senior interning with the CRC.

Also volunteering were CRC interns Grace Carmichael and Kelly Ronquist., both seniors at MSU.
