Many people seem to have now figured out the best place in this town to get brunch on Sundays: in Valley Court, right next to the East Lansing Farmers' Market. Two terrific food truck operations are in hot competition for who can make you fatter on healthy local food faster. Seriously, these are both amazing mobile restaurants. And the city has helpfully provided picnic tables right under the trees nearby.
This week the Purple Carrot was offering such delights as Red Haven Peaches & Cream Soup; a quiche made of nightingale swiss chard, sweet corn, and manchego; Tofu Banh Mi Lettuce Raps (vegan); rhubarb scones; and smoked lake trout benny sammy. I have no idea what that last item is, but it's made with smoked lake trout, a poached egg from Titus farms, and hollandaise sauce, so I'm pretty sure it rocks.
Meanwhile, each Sunday from 10-2, Trailer Park'd continues to provide more culinary temptation than you can experience the whole rest of the week put together in this town. Feeling like a real lunch? Consider the juicy organic burger, served with red onion, raw milk cheddar, and greens, or the veggie tacos packed with greens, onions, black beans, cilantro, queso fresco, lime, and tomatillo. Wash it all down with a sage lemonade, the only kind of lemonade in which you also get to eat a bit of greenery.
Now's your chance, people! Summer brunches can't go on like this forever.
